SMOOTH EDGES

Anyone who travels by car often has them in their field of vision: Windshield wipers. They essentially consist of a molded rubber strip, the production of which includes a cleaning step that involves deflashing – in other words, the removal of undesirable rubber residues. Nitrogen from Messer plays a supporting role here: As the cryogenic gas cools the rubber part, the thin flash formed during the molding process becomes hard and brittle. It is then blasted with small plastic pellets and breaks off cleanly. When deflashed in this way, these molded parts need no further rework and wipe windshields without leaving any streaks.
