BUOYANT MOOD
Whether for weddings, festivals, children’s birthday parties or business grand openings – free-floating balloons enchant the senses. The “secret” that holds them aloft is balloon gas, a mixture consisting of helium and small amounts of air. It is very safe to use: only the cylinders that store the balloon gas require attention, because they are under pressure. In addition, a few basic rules must be followed: Although balloon gas is not toxic, it should not be inhaled, because it displaces vital oxygen from the lungs. When using it in enclosed spaces, adequate ventilation must be provided. Tip: Fill latex balloons only shortly before use, because balloon gas escapes through the balloon skin within 14 to 16 hours. Balloons filled the night before may already look “emaciated” the next day.
